It is said that after the invention of computer, the most widely used innovation is the satellite based navigation system called the Global Positioning System (GPS). Though originally developed for the control, guidance and navigational applications of US military, in a very short span of time this technology has pervaded almost every aspect of human life.
GPS technology is based on a constellation of 36 satellites revolving in 6 orbits. These satellites transmit very precisely time synchronized signals using which GPS receivers are able to compute their position to a very high degree of accuracy. In addition to position, GPS receivers are capable of providing high stable and accurate time information.
The major advantages of GPS based equipments are reliability, accuracy, round the clock operation, availability in any part of the earth and above all, very low cost of ownership.
Because of these advantages toady GPS technology is being used for a wide range of applications such as high speed digital communication, time synchronization of computer networks, personal, air and marine navigation tracking of mobile assets, land and hydrographic survey, geodesy, Ionospheric and seismic studies etc.
The Strategic Electronic Division of Advanced Micronic Devices Limited offers GPS based products and solutions for all these applications.
